F2 and F6 routes merging into a loop service
We are proposing to merge the F2 Taronga Zoo and F6 Mosman Bay services into one loop route serving all existing wharves, which will enable a more frequent service to ensure trips meet both peak and off-peak demand.
The loop will operate anti-clockwise in the morning (from Circular Quay), then change direction around midday and operate clockwise in the afternoon (from Circular Quay), seven days a week.
In the morning, ferries will operate from Circular Quay direct to Taronga Zoo, then Mosman Bay, Old Cremorne, South Mosman and Cremorne Point before returning to Circular Quay.
In the afternoon (from 1pm), ferries will operate from Circular Quay direct to Cremorne Point, then via South Mosman, Old Cremorne, Mosman Bay and Taronga Zoo, before returning to Circular Quay.
Why?
The proposed loop service recognises that patronage on this route is largely one-way at most times of the day:
In the morning, most commuters travel from Mosman Bay to Circular Quay, and leisure users typically travel from Circular Quay to Taronga Zoo.
In the afternoon, most commuters travel from Circular Quay to Mosman Bay wharves, and leisure users return from Taronga Zoo to Circular Quay.
Re-aligning service to meet your travelling needs
The proposed changes will result in improved services across the week that better match when and where you travel.
20 minute frequency
If you travel from Mosman Bay and Cremorne Point towards Circular Quay, and from Circular Quay to Taronga Zoo, you will experience a similar travel time as you currently do.
If you travel from Taronga Zoo, you will experience slightly longer travel times than currently.
If you travel from Circular Quay to Cremorne Point, South Mosman, Old Cremorne and Mosman Bay wharves, you will experience longer travel times but will have more frequent services.
